Circa 1934 Dizzy and Daffy Dean Beech-Nut Advertising Display Poster
Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $3,190.00
Spectacular full-color store display poster (10 x 20 inches) features Dizzy Dean and his brother Paul advertising for Lorillard's Beech-Nut Tobacco. The illustrated display pictures the famous siblings standing side by side in their Cardinal uniforms, each with a hand outstretched holding a baseball. The backdrop features a large baseball glove with a package of Beech-Nut Tobacco in the pocket. "A Great Chew" is printed along the top in bold blue letters. We have seen this famous image used in ads and on other Beech-Nut advertising pieces, including a large standup die-cut cardboard display, but this is the first time we have seen this poster. The vibrant colors and bold graphics make this one of the most striking of all player endorsement advertising displays, especially among those dating from the 1930s. The poster has a barely visible horizontal center fold, and a small piece of tape in the upper right and left corners from long ago being displayed as intended. The image area (10 x 19.5 inches) is Near Mint. Beautifully matted and framed to total dimensions of 17 x 26.5 inches. This is a magnificent advertising poster, of extraordinary quality, rarity, and visual impact. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$1,500. SOLD FOR $3,190.00
