1938 Joe DiMaggio Wheaties Box

Starting Bid - $200.00, Sold For - $580.00

In the 1930s, Wheaties issued baseball package design baseball cards on the backs of its cereal boxes, which were intended to be handcut from the boxes by youngsters. The cards are scarce, but they are almost impossible to find uncut from their original boxes. Offered is one of the most desirable of all Wheaties cards, the #11 Joe DiMaggio card from the extremely colorful 1938 Wheaties (Series 10) set, which miraculously has never been cut from the box. This sixteen-card set is often referred to as the "Biggest Thrill of Baseball" series, and is especially prized for its extremely attractive and colorful design. DiMaggio is the key to the set, and this card is one of the most highly prized of all 1930s Wheaties cards, but on the box this is as much, or more so, a Joe DiMaggio-related advertising display as a rare Joe DiMaggio baseball card. The top of the box is missing; and there is a small tear and a notation on a side panel; otherwise the box is in overall Vg-Ex/Ex condition. Reserve $200. Estimate $400/$600. SOLD FOR $580.00
