1894 Pittsburgh BBC Schedule Poster
Starting Bid - $2,000.00, Sold For - $17,400.00
Presented is one of the most visually exciting and colorful baseball display posters of the nineteenth century. Published by the Chronicle Telegraph, a Pittsburgh newspaper specializing in "Official Base Ball News," the beautiful stone litho advertising poster features a baseball scene, with batter, catcher, and umpire, at center, surrounded by portraits of Pittsburgh Nationals manager A. C. Buckenberger and four Pittsburgh stars (Gumbert, Killen, Denzel, and Bierbauer). Below is the Pittsburgh Nationals schedule of "Games at Exposition Park, Allegheny City." Rarely is a poster from any era so stunning, let alone a poster dating from the 1890s, an era known for mostly very drab and uninspired graphics. This is the only example of this poster known to exist. The poster is mounted flat, has some creasing, and very professional restoration in the form of repair to some tears and inpainting, but as can be seen in the accompanying illustration, displays beautifully, with an Excellent appearance. This museum caliber poster would be a worthy highlight and centerpiece for even the most advanced nineteenth-century baseball or advertising collection. Dimensions: 18.5 x 25 inches. Framed to the dimensions of 19.75 x 26.5 inches. Reserve $2,000. Estimate $4,000/$6,000. SOLD FOR $17,400.00
