1887 Kalamazoo Bats N693 Athletic Club Team Card
Starting Bid - $1,000.00, Sold For - $3,190.00
Graded VG 40 by SGC. 1887 Kalamazoo Bats team card of the Philadelphia Athletics of the American Association issued by Chas. Gross & Co. All Kalamazoo Bats team cards are extremely rare. This team is highlighted by Hall of Famer Wilbert Robinson and Harry Stovey, a major star of the day who many believe deserves to be in the Hall of Fame, both of whom are standing in the back row center. The Athletics is a particularly interesting card in the series as most of the Kalamazoo Bats individual player cards, of course, feature Philadelphia players. The players on this team card were each honored with their individual Kalamazoo Bats card. Only six different teams are known to exist. No new teams have been discovered since the 1960s so the set appears to be complete at six. The offered example displays an extremely strong photograph with ideal contrast and perfect focus. A tobacco stain on a small area of the left border is slightly darkened, and some extremely light additional tobacco staining is on the right border. The blank reverse is clean and the the left corners show slight wear. Strong Vg example bordering on Vg-Ex. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000/$3,000. SOLD FOR $3,190.00
