1910 Philadelphia Athletics Champions Pin
Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $2,204.00
Extremely rare Philadelphia A's metal flag pin, with blue, white, and gold enamel design, and light blue ribbon attachment which reads "Philadelphia Athletics Champions 1910" in silver lettering. Suspended from the ribbon is a highly detailed silver-colored metal figural elephant. This is one of only three examples known. The general design and the extraordinary production quality of this elaborate souvenir badge, and the ribbon in particular, has incredible similarities to the 1911 press pin. This is understandable as both were manufactured by the same company, the Caldwell Badge Company of Philadelphia. This is of great significance as the design of the 1910 souvenir pin had a tremendous and easily seen influence on the design of the early Philadelphia A's press pins issued over the next several years, all of which were produced by Caldwell. The Philadelphia Athletics won four pennants and three World Series titles from 1910 to 1914. The striking design and extraordinary quality of this souvenir badge is rivaled only by the early ribbon-style Athletics World Series press pins of 1911, 1913, and 1914. The enamel flag is in perfect Mint condition, there is some extremely slight fraying to the silk ribbon; overall in Near Mint condition. Height: 4 inches. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$2,000. SOLD FOR $2,204.00
