1913 Philadelphia Athletics World Champions Pin
Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $1,276.00
Extremely rare, and very likely one-of-a-kind, souvenir celluloid pinback commemorating the 1913 World Champion Philadelphia Athletics, featuring tiny images of Hall of Fame manager Connie Mack, Harry Davis, and Eddie Murphy standing together, superimposed on the side of an elephant. "1913 Champion Athletics" printed in an elegant type face frames the elaborate graphics. The original back paper is intact, and identifies the pin as manufactured by "J.H. Shaw Co. of 1326 Arch St., Phila. Pa." A small American flag design imprinted on cloth (slightly faded and frayed from age) is attached under the collet of the pin on the reverse, as issued. Absolutely flawless contrast and extraordinary production quality provides incredible detail, allowing for the three individual faces (and with a loop, even their expressions) to be seen. In over 30 years of specializing in baseball pinbacks, we have never seen or heard of another example of this celluloid pinback rarity. Excellent condition. Diameter: 7/8 inches. Height with ribbon: 2.75 inches. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$1,500. SOLD FOR $1,276.00
