1979 Dave Parker Gold Glove Award
Starting Bid - $1,000.00, Sold For - $5,220.00
Dave Parker had an all-star year in 1979. He hit 25 home runs, led the League in extra base hits (77), and had a batting average of .310. Parker was elected to his second All-Star Game appearance in 1979 and was named the game's MVP. Offered is the Gold Glove Award presented to Dave Parker in 1979, featuring a golden mitt and two golden baseballs mounted onto a wooden base. Affixed to the base is a plaque picturing Parker, and a second plaque beneath reading, "1979 Rawlings Gold Glove Award - Presented To - Dave Parker - Honoring His Selection to The Sporting News National League All Star Fielding Team." The base is flanked by two "Rawlings" logos. The Gold Glove is a major award recognizing the defensive skills that mark a complete player. Few surface in the marketplace as they are usually kept by the recipients. This is a rarely offered original Gold Glove award from one of the game's most prominent stars. In nineteen Major League seasons, Parker batted .290 with 2,712 hits, including 526 doubles, 75 triples, and 339 home runs. He stole 154 bases, scored 1,272 runs, and had 1,493 RBI. This is one of only three Gold Glove awards ever received by Parker. There is a small indentation above the "e" in the word "glove" on the presentation plaque, of no consequence but mentioned for the sake of accuracy, otherwise the award is in overall Excellent to Mint condition. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000/$3,000. SOLD FOR $5,220.00
