1978 Dave Parker National League Batting Title Silver Bat Award

Starting Bid - $1,500.00, Sold For - $16,240.00

The batting title has always been one of baseball's important and revered season records. Every year the winner of the batting title in each league is presented with a magnificent full-sized engraved silver bat trophy. Understandably, as is the case with Cy Young and MVP awards, few of these silver bats are ever available to collectors since few are presented, only two each year, and they are usually kept by the players as reminders of their greatest seasons. Here is a rare exception. This is the actual sterling silver Louisville Slugger bat presented to Dave Parker in honor of his winning the National League batting title in 1978, when he led the league with a .334 average. The bat is designed with virtually the same H&B labeling and in the same proportions as the Louisville Slugger bat he typically used in 1978. It is engraved "Batting Champion 1978 - National League - B.A. .334," and features Parker's facsimile signature engraved on the barrel. This is one of the most prized of all baseball awards, dating from the height of Parker's great nineteen-year career. Parker won two consecutive batting titles in 1977 and 1978. The silver bat is accompanied by a detailed letter from Dave Parker. Mint condition. Reserve $1,500. Estimate $3,000/$5,000. SOLD FOR $16,240.00
