This is a tremendous and voluminous collection of original card-production material direct from the archives of Topps, formally deaccessioned prior to the creation of The Topps Vault. The collection spans from the late 1970s to the late 1980s and includes hundreds of photographs, negatives, and other materials related to the card-production process, mostly baseball, but also including football, soccer, and a small number of non-sport card-related items. Many of the photos, both negatives and color prints, are "outtakes," which were considered but not actually used by Topps. Included are a total of over 3,000 items. 1) 1979 Topps Baseball: outtake negatives, 4 x 5 inches (83) and outtake photos, 4 x 5 inches (41); includes Rose, Fingers, Brett, Winfield, Carew. 2) 1980 Topps Baseball "Superstar 5 x 7 Photos": 37 outtake photos and 20 outtake photo negatives. 3) 1981 Coke (printed by Topps): 13 Topps envelopes with printer's notations written on the outside of the envelopes; inside each envelope are materials relating to proofing the design and production of one card (photo strip negative and tracing paper with drafted design).
