Old-Time Ballplayer Baseball Statues (2)
Starting Bid - $300.00, Sold For - $464.00
Two fiberglass figures, each modeled as an old-time ballplayer standing with his bat at his side: 1) Circa 1950s whiskey advertisement statue (47 inches tall) for "Kessler." The figure is dressed in a white uniform with blue socks, cap, and undershirt, and has "Smooth As Silk Kessler" in red embossed letters across his chest. When this figure was produced, to be displayed in liquor stores in the 1950s, it was intended to have a nostalgic feel to it, capturing the spirit of nineteenth-century baseball. 2) While similar in many respects to the first figure, the second figure dates from the 1980s. The finely detailed statue (40 inches tall) is dressed in a grey Cincinnati Reds uniform with red sleeves, socks, and cap, and stands on a green base. There is a gold plaque mounted to the base that reads, "#100 Legends I." This is an exceptionally well made figural art piece. Although both figures were produced within the last fifty years, each is a tremendous and very striking display piece, and each very successfully captures the spirit of nineteenth-century baseball. These are very substantial, and worthy of display in even the most sophisticated collection. Both are in Excellent condition. Reserve $300. Estimate $500/$1,000. SOLD FOR $464.00
