Circa 1930 Charlie Root's Baseball Figural Clock
Starting Bid - $200.00, Sold For - $812.00
Fascinating windup mantel clock is comprised of metal throughout, including the brass knob and pendulum, and dates from the same era in which its original owner served up some of the most famous home runs in baseball history. Despite a brilliant career with over 200 wins that spanned four pennant-winning seasons for the Chicago Cubs, Charlie Root is best remembered for his one pitch to Babe Ruth in the 1932 World Series that was hit for the Bambino's legendary "called shot" home run. This rare and possibly unique baseball-shaped clock is still accompanied by the original key, and is in complete working order, exactly as it sat on Charlie Root's mantel over a half century ago. Obtained many years ago directly from the estate of Charlie Root, the clock stands 9.5 inches high. Minor surface chips, otherwise in Excellent condition. Reserve $200. Estimate $400/$600. SOLD FOR $812.00
