1919 Cincinnati Reds World Series Program
Starting Bid - $1,000.00, Sold For - $2,900.00
Extremely substantial 50-page program issued at Cincinnati to commemorate what would come to be known as the most notorious scandal in baseball history - the "Black Sox" scandal of 1919. The program features dozens of illustrations including a center double-page team photo of the infamous "Black Sox." It is especially ironic that a program which by design so ambitiously celebrates the history of the game (because 1919 was by chance the year of the Golden Jubilee of the 1869 Red Stockings) also represents baseball's darkest hour. The 1919 World Series program understandably enjoys a tremendous popularity with collectors, appealing to generalists and 1919 World Series collectors, as well as World Series program specialists. Partially scored in pencil. Extremely clean and flat. The centerfold is present but has separated from the staples, and the page prior is detached at the top staple only; the cover exhibits some minor wear/scratches; overall a very solid mid-grade example of this extremely important program. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000/$3,000. SOLD FOR $2,900.00
