1913 M113 Joe Jackson Baseball Magazine Premium
Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $1,624.00
This 1913 sepia-toned Baseball Magazine premium features Joe Jackson, who at this time was still with Cleveland, in a classic hands-on-knees fielding pose. Baseball Magazine was the premier baseball publication of its day. This is one of a series of premiums offered to its readers, which are catalogued M113. Because of their large dimensions (9 x 17 inches), they are ideal for display, but are also very susceptible to damage and are rarely found in high grade. This is the finest example we have seen. It is so sharp we were at first concerned it might be a reprint. It isn't. In the frame it looks Mint. We opened the frame to check edges and corners (and to make sure it was real) and found two tiny edge tears (1/8-inch and 3/8-inch) and a tiny border blemish, otherwise in Near Mint condition. A very thin strip of removable conservator museum tape along top was used in the framing process. This is a very common practice when framing valuable paper items and does not harm the piece. Beautifully matted and framed to total dimensions of 15.5 x 22.25 inches. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$1,500. SOLD FOR $1,624.00
