1911 Philadelphia Athletics World's Champions Souvenir Plate
Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $812.00
Extraordinary high-grade example of the classic 1911 World's Champions Philadelphia Athletics souvenir plate. This is one of the all-time great display pieces of the era, and one of the best pieces featuring Connie Mack's famous championship Athletics. The graphic design of the plate features identified portraits of the A's superimposed on the Athletics trademark elephant, with manager Connie Mack riding high above. Included are Hall of Famers Eddie Plank, Eddie Collins, Chief Bender, and Frank Baker. These plates usually survive with substantial wear to the transfer and gold trim. This is an incredible example with no chips, virtually no wear, and with even the gold trim along the perimeter entirely complete and intact. These plates rarely survive in this exceptionally high grade. The reverse of the plate is marked "Florence Cook Pottery Co." A magnificent example of one of the few great early baseball plates. Diameter: 10 inches. Near Mint condition. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$1,500. SOLD FOR $812.00
