Circa 1910 Baseball Fan with Stars Including Wagner, Cobb

Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $1,740.00

Extraordinary circa 1910 baseball fan features identified portraits of an incredible thirty-five stars including Hall of Famers Ty Cobb, Honus Wagner, Walter Johnson, Christy Mathewson, Frank Baker, Nap Lajoie, Clark Griffith, Frank Chance, Rogers Bresnahan, Eddie Collins, Tris Speaker, Ed Walsh, Johnny Evers, and Rube Marquard. Fans of this general style are a relatively well defined area of collecting with very few different designs known, which makes this example all the more incredible as this is an extraordinarily rare style fan which we have never before seen. It is also very unusual in that the designs of all fans previously known to us feature fewer than half this number of players. The reverse advertises for "The Men's Shop" of Penacook, New Hamphire. This fan was an advertising premium given away by the store. This is an amazing early baseball fan, featuring an incredibly large percentage of all of the top stars of the game. The original wooden stick is intact but has a crack (easily repairable) visible on the reverse. The cardboard fan has a small repair to a tear in Schaeffer's portrait on the far left (very minor, mentioned for the sake of accuracy) and a small crease through Meyers' portrait on the right, otherwise in Excellent condition. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$2,000. SOLD FOR $1,740.00
