Nineteenth-Century Baseball Figural Collection (3)

Starting Bid - $800.00, Sold For - $3,480.00

Collection of three extraordinary and very rare circa 1890 baseball figural pieces: 1) Silver-plated baseball figural napkin ring made by Pairpoint Co. depicts an early mustached ballplayer throwing a ball. He is standing atop a textured surface which is to emulate a playing field with a bat and glove resting at his feet. The bottom is stamped "Pairpoint MFG Co. - New Bedford, Mass. - Quadruple Plate." This is one of the most beautifully designed baseball figural art items with extraordinary detail and of very high quality production. Dimensions: 3.5 x 2.5 x 3.5 inches. 2) Silver-plated baseball figural ash bowl features a ballplayer in uniform with a bat standing aside a bowl on a metal pedestal. There is no date but the manufacturer's logo stamping on the bottom in high relief appears to read "Hall, Elton & Co. - Wallingford, CT. - Triple Plate." The metal base is decorated with an ornate design around the edges. Dimensions: 3.25 x 2 x 3.25 inches. 3) Beautifully designed silver-plated baseball figural napkin ring made by Meriden Britannia Company. Features an early mustached ballplayer in uniform leaning with his right arm against the actual ring. The ring itself is atop a metal pedestal with an ornate floral design. The manufacturer's stamping on the bottom reads "Meriden B & Company." Height: 3.5 inches. These early baseball figural pieces are very rarely found as individual examples, let alone as a collection of several pieces. This is a tremendous group of these early figural rarities, all the more striking for display as each piece features a unique figure style. All are in Excellent condition, each with just a hint of wear from normal handling. Three spectacular circa 1890 examples of exceedingly rare baseball figural art. Total 3 items. Reserve $800. Estimate $1,500/$2,500. SOLD FOR $3,480.00
