Extraordinary Nineteenth-Century Baseball Figural Collection (3)

Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $2,320.00

Collection of three extremely rare and unusual circa 1890 baseball figural pieces: 1) Extraordinary silver-plated baseball figural inkwell features a ball and very detailed ring-style bat on each side of the round base, along with two additional balls providing four secure points within which sits the original crystal ink jar (2.25 x 2.25 x 2 inches), with a lid designed with a ball on top. The manufacturer's logo stamping on the bottom of the base reads "Atkinson Silver Co. - Quadruple Plate" in high relief . There is some slight tarnishing and minimal wear in a few places from normal handling, otherwise the inkwell is in perfect condition. This is an incredible and exquisite piece. Dimensions: The base is 4.5 inches in circumference. The inkwell is 3.25 inches in height. 2) Beautifully designed white metal (probably silver-plated) mercury thermometer mounted on an elaborate metal backing with a ring-style bat on one side and glove on the other side, and with the original metal stand on reverse. In the 1890s, thermometers with elaborate designs were very popular. This is an extremely rare and unusual Victorian-era baseball figural piece. Dimensions: 5.5 x 1.75 inches. 3) White metal baseball figural matchstick holder is designed with a ball with open mouth, which is supported by three crossed ring-style bats. Excellent condition. Height: 3.5 inches. It is rare to find even a single nineteenth-century baseball figural piece of this exceptionally high quality.
