1886 McGloughlin Bros. Game of Base-Ball
Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $1,624.00
Before the turn-of-the-century, McLoughlin Brothers was renowned for producing the highest quality games of all types, including several different baseball board games. McGloughlin Brothers "Game of Base-Ball" is one of the rarest and most highly prized of all nineteenth-century baseball board games. In addition to the spectacular graphics of its cover, this is the only McLoughlin baseball game with metal baseball figures. The game includes all nine meticulously painted metal baseball figures (eight are Ex with original paint and very little wear; one figure has separated from its base and almost certainly could be repaired if desired), as well as the very study folding game board (Ex-Mt), both spinners (Vg-Ex due to wear from normal use), seven wooden game pieces, and the original eight-page direction booklet for the game. The sturdy game box shows general wear, including some surface chipping to the right edge of the cover and a surface scrape to the second "L" in "Base-Ball," both of which do not affect the large image of the pitcher or the spectacular game-in-progress illustration on the cover. The box is of high-quality pressed cardboard and wood construction, and measures 17 x 9.5 x 2 inches. Overall in Very Good condition. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$2,000. SOLD FOR $1,624.00
