1871 H. Harwood & Sons Base Ball and Bats Business Advertising Card

Starting Bid - $200.00, Sold For - $3,770.00

Stunning 1871 advertising business card "Presented by Frank W. Harwood" advertises for "H. Harwood & Sons, manufacturers of Base Balls and Bats, Natick, Mass.," and is entitled "The National Game 1871" in red at top. A highly detailed woodcut of a ballplayer catching a ball appears at left. Script lettering at bottom reads "The oldest House in the Business and manufacture twenty time more than all others." Small type along the top lists co-proprietors H. Harwood, H. G. Harwood, and H. Harwood, Jr. On the reverse is an illustrated price list for baseball bats, with the most expensive models given the honor of names, some relating to teams (such as "Star," "Red Stocking," and "Atlantic"), as opposed to model numbers. This is an incredible advertising business card, extremely elaborate and possibly unique, from one of baseball's earliest and most respected manufacturers of baseball equipment. Dimensions: 4.5 x 3.2 inches. In Excellent to Mint condition. Reserve $200. Estimate $400/$600. SOLD FOR $3,770.00
