Nineteenth-Century Figural Baseball Thermometer

The mercury thermometer mounted on white bakelite is suspended from a "tree branch" hung between two "saplings" growing from the "rough" dirt base, all rendered in pewter, with a 2-7/8-inch tall pewter figure of a pitcher throwing underhand in the right foreground. Stamped on the bottom "Pairpoint MFG. Co." One metal peg near the bottom of the thermometer, which mounts it to its backing, is not original and has been replaced, otherwise in Excellent condition. This is an extremely rare Victorian era baseball figural piece. Measures 7 x 4.5 inches. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$2,000. SOLD FOR $928.00
