Circa 1897 Base Ball Cigar Box
Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $1,276.00
"Base Ball" brand cigar box has a gorgeous full-color lithographic interior label featuring a very unusual game-in-progress scene. A smaller exterior sealing label on the side features the same colorful image. "Manufactured by B.F. Honsinger St. Thomas." "Base Ball" appears in large stylized script across the top of the lid. This is the only example of this extremely rare nineteenth-century baseball cigar box we have ever seen. "Series of 1897" Canadian tax stamp strip and side label exhibit wear but still display well, the top of the mahogany box is slightly warped (which is very common with early wooden cigar boxes). A crack in the floor of the mahogany box is mentioned strictly for the sake of accuracy and may be as made. Overall in Very Good to Excellent condition. Dimensions: 8.5 x 5 x 2.75 inches. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$1,500. SOLD FOR $1,276.00
