Circa 1890s Safe Hit Cigar Box

This wooden cigar box has an extremely attractive multicolored interior label depicting a game-in-progress with a full grandstand in the background. The label on this box is as beautiful, elaborate, and detailed as that found on any cigar box featuring any subject. The label is lettered "Safe Hit Cigar, 2 for 5." The inside label is bright and colorful with some very minor wrinkles, overall Very Good to Excellent condition. A black and white version of the game-in-progress scene appears on the top of the wooden lid. Dimensions: 8 x 5 x 4.5 inches. This is the finest example we have ever seen of this nineteenth-century advertising masterpiece. The box is in Excellent condition. A lesser quality example was sold in the famous Halper auction as lot #2141 for $2,587. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000/$3,000. SOLD FOR $1,624.00
