1935 New York Yankees Team-Signed Baseball with Lou Gehrig

Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $3,190.00

Official American League (Harridge) baseball is signed by eighteen members of the 1935 New York Yankees (total of twenty signatures: two players signed twice) and features an extraordinary Lou Gehrig signature on the sweet spot. In 1935 the Yankees for the first time since 1920 were without Babe Ruth, and for the first time in Gehrig's career, the sweet spots on team-signed baseballs were no longer reserved for Ruth as they had been for so many years. This honor now was reserved for Gehrig. This ball is graced with a remarkably large and impressive Lou Gehrig signature on the sweet spot, which grades a strong "7" on a scale of "1 to 10." The remaining panels include the signatures of Tony Lazzeri, Jimmie DeShong (twice), Walter Brown (clubhouse signature), Bill Dickey, Pat Malone, Lefty Gomez, Vito Tamulis, Red Ruffing, Red Rolfe, Earle Combs, George Selkirk, John Broaca, Jack Saltzgaver (clubhouse), Ben Chapman (twice, one is clubhouse next to Blondy Ryan), Jesse Hill, Blondy Ryan (clubhouse), and Myril Hoag (clubhouse). Signatures range in grade from "5" to "7" overall. The ball's stampings are very slightly faded but are still bold and legible. The ball has been covered with a light coat of protective shellac and is otherwise in Excellent condition. LOAs from Mike Gutierrez/GAI and James Spence & Steve Grad/PSA DNA. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$2,000. SOLD FOR $3,190.00
