Extraordinary Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig Signed Baseball

Starting Bid - $5,000.00, Sold For - $15,080.00

Spectacular high-grade red and blue stitched "Brine's Official League Ball" is beautifully signed "Babe Ruth" ("9/10") in black fountain pen across the sweet spot and "Lou Gehrig" ("9/10") in black fountain pen on an adjacent side panel. Both signatures display magnificently as "single-signed" examples. Rarely are signatures of either Ruth or Gehrig found so bold and perfect on a baseball, let alone such extraordinary signatures of both legends on the same ball. All the official ball stampings are bold and essentially flawless. The ball is a beautiful cream color with only very minor wear from handling. It is overall in Excellent to Mint condition, with some very light natural soiling professionally removed. The signatures of Red Sox manager Bill Carrigan and Red Sox outfielder Ira Flagstead, both grading "9" and appearing on the other side panels, allow us to date this ball circa 1928, as Flagstead played with the Red Sox from 1924 to 1929, and Carrigan managed the Red Sox from 1927 to 1929. Carrigan has an additional great significance to Babe Ruth, of course, as he was Ruth's first manager with the Red Sox, from 1914 to 1916. This is an extraordinary high-grade signed ball, presenting the most desirable two-signature combination in the baseball collecting world, in an extraordinary, virtually perfect grade. LOAs from Mike Gutierrez/GAI and James Spence & Steve Grad/PSA DNA. Reserve $5,000. Estimate $10,000/$15,000. SOLD FOR $15,080.00
