1925 Connie Mack Single-Signed Baseball Inscribed to Eddie Plank
Starting Bid - $400.00, Sold For - $1,044.00
Red and blue stitched Official American League (Johnson) ball signed and inscribed "For My Old Friend Eddie, Connie Mack" ("6") in black fountain pen. The ball originates from the Eddie Plank estate. This is an extraordinary baseball signed from one Hall of Famer to another. Mack's star pitcher from 1901 to 1914, Plank helped the Athletics win three World Championships during his career with Philadelphia. The manufacturer's stampings (which include a 1925 patent date) on this Official American League baseball identify the model precisely as a 1925 ball. This is of special note as Plank died on February 24, 1926. It is our opinion that, based on this definitive dating, it is very possible that Connie Mack sent or personally presented this signed ball to his friend and former player Eddie Plank when Plank was practically or literally on his deathbed. The ball is lightly toned with minor surface abrasions but still otherwise in Excellent condition. LOAs from Mike Gutierrez/GAI and James Spence & Steve Grad/PSA DNA. Reserve $400. Estimate $800/$1,200. SOLD FOR $1,044.00
