Hobby Card and Publication Collection

Starting Bid - $50.00, Sold For - $348.00

Fascinating collection of "hobby cards" and publications relating to the collecting hobby's past is highlighted by the 1963 Sport Hobbyist "Famous Card Series" card of the T206 Honus Wagner (which, as ridiculous as it sounds, is actually rarer than the real T206 Wagner). Also included is one 1967 Sport Hobbyist Famous Card Series (Tarzan Bread card), four 1971 Sport Hobbyist Famous Card Series cards, a small selection of additional oddball hobby-related cards, two 1960s Ballcard Collectors, one 1973 Sports Scoop, four 1974 Sports Collectors News, one 1969 Charles Bray Card Collectors Bulletin, 1967 Preston Orem Baseball (1885) from the Newspaper Accounts limited-edition volume numbered and signed by Orem. The highlight of the lot may be the circa 1960 edition of The American Book of Checklists by Charles Bray, which includes one of the earliest ever attempts at checklisting Old Judges. This is an extremely rare and, for the time, groundbreaking volume. The cards and publications in this lot may never have any serious value, but are fascinating relics of the rich history of collecting, and in many ways, to us, represent what this hobby is all about. Some are rare, such as the cards issued by The Sport Hobbyist, one of organized collecting's earliest publications, some are common, but all have some appeal, and will be of special interest to collectors who have an appreciation of card collecting's rich history. Total 20 items. Reserve $50. Estimate $100/$200. SOLD FOR $348.00
