1955 Topps Doubleheaders Complete SGC Graded Unperforated Set (66)

Starting Bid - $5,000.00, Sold For - $11,600.00

Complete set of 1955 Topps Doubleheaders (sixty-six cards), presented in a very rarely seen unfolded and unperforated state. When issued in packs, these cards were perforated horizontally, allowing for easy folding. 1955 Topps Doubleheaders were never issued in this special unperforated form. A set of this type had to have originated at some time directly from someone involved in the printing of the set, or someone at Topps who had been provided with this set by the printer for proofing. The offered cards were pulled from production prior to the final perforation and folding process. All sixty-six cards of this complete unperforated proof set have been graded and encapsulated by SGC. The SGC grades are as follows: Five MINT 96: #37/38, 55/56, 59/60, 77/78, 117/118. Five NM/MT+ 92: #19/20, 27/28, 31/32 Banks, 35/36, 103/104. Eighteen NM/MT 88: #3/4 Irvin, 13/14, 15/16, 25/26 J. Robinson, 33/34, 63/64, 69/70 T. Williams, 73/74, 75/76, 83/84, 91/92, 93/94, 97/98, 99/100, 105/106 Aaron, 115/116, 121/122 Kluszewski, 125/126. Nine NM+ 86: #23/24, 39/40, 49/50, 65/66, 81/82, 87/88, 89/90, 113/114, 119/120. 13 NM 84: #7/8, 9/10, 21/22 Skowron, 41/42, 43/44, 57/58, 61/62, 71/72, 79/80, 85/86, 95/96, 107/108, 127/128 Spahn. Three EX/NM 80: #45/46 Kaline, 51/52, 53/54 Amoros. Two Ex+ 70: #29/30 and 109/110 Newhouser. Eight EX 60: #1/2, 5/6, 11/12, 17/18, 47/48, 67/68, 111/112 Killebrew, 131/132 (last card in set). Two VG/EX 50: #123/124 and 129/130 Gilliam. One VG 40: #101/102. This is one of only two sets we have ever handled in this rare unperforated proof form. (We're not sure, but the two sets may, in fact, be one and the same; it is very possible that this is actually the very same proof set we auctioned many years ago.) Doubleheaders are one of the scarcest and most unusual of all early 1950s gum issues. This complete set, in addition to being in a very rare and unusual form, is easily one of the finest sets in existence in terms of condition. The equivalent grades, with no premium added for their special unperforated proof form, translate in SMR to a book value total of $17,448. Total 66 cards representing 132 players. Reserve $5,000. Estimate $10,000/$15,000. SOLD FOR $11,600.00
