1948 to 1955 Bowman Brooklyn Dodgers Collection (149)

Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $3,770.00

On the playgrounds in Brooklyn in the 1950s, cards featuring Brooklyn Dodgers were the ultimate currency. A single Dodger player card was a prize, a small stack was an abundance of riches. A collection of 149 was unheard of, but if it could even be imagined, would have qualified as a king's ransom. Offered is a collection of 149 assorted Bowmans from 1948 to 1955, all of Dodgers players, highlighted by legends such as Duke Snider, Roy Campanella, Pee Wee Reese, and Gil Hodges. Includes many duplicates of key stars, especially among the 1953 Bowman Color (seven Gil Hodges, two Roy Campanella, two Duke Snider, etc). Comprised of the following (quantities in parentheses): 1) 1948 (3 cards): #7 Reiser (Ex), 41, 43. 2) 1949 (8 cards): #20, 36 Reese (slight trim otherwise Ex), 70 Furillo RC (Vg), 73 Cox RC, 100 Hodges RC (Vg-Ex), 116, 178, 206. 3) 1950 (23 cards): #76 (2), 77 Snider (possible slight trim otherwise Ex), 112 Hodges (possible slight trim otherwise Ex), 113, 165 (3), 166 (3), 167 (2), 194 (2), 222 (2), 223 (2), 224 (4). 4) 1951 (29 cards): #6 Newcombe (2 Vg), 7 Hodges (Vg-Ex), 31 Campanella (Vg-Ex), 32 Snider (Ex), 55 (2), 56 Branca (Ex), 80 Reese (Vg-Ex), 81 Furillo (Ex), 116, 117 (2), 118 Roe (2, Ex-Mt and Vg), 152 (2), 153 (2), 189 (2), 190, 224, 225 (2), 259 Dressen (2, both Ex-Mt), 260 Erskine RC (Ex-Mt), 299. 5) 1952 (15 cards): #8 Reese (Ex), 24 Furillo (Vg), 56, 70 Erskine (Vg-Ex), 80 Hodges (Vg-Ex), 86, 96 Branca (Vg), 116 Snider (Vg-Ex), 128 Newcombe (Ex), 152 (2), 168 Roe (Vg-Ex), 188 (2), 224. 6) 1953 B&W (2 cards): #26 Roe (Vg) and 52 Branca (Ex). 7) 1953 Color (32 cards): #12 Erskine (5; three Ex, one Vg-Ex, one Vg), 14 Loes (2, both Ex), 33 Reese (Vg-Ex), 46 Campanella (2, both Vg), 78 Furillo (3, two Ex and one Vg), 92 Hodges (7; four Ex and three Vg-Ex), 117 Snider (2, both Vg-Ex), 124 Dressen (2, both Vg-Ex), 129 (2), 135 (3), 145 Shuba (3, two Vg-Ex and one Vg). 8) 1954 (23 cards): #10 (2), 26, 42, 58 Reese (Vg), 74 Gilliam (2, Ex and Vg-Ex), 90 Campanella (2, both Vg), 106 (3), 122 (3), 138 Hodges (Vg), 154 Newcombe (Vg-Ex), 170 Snider (2, both Vg-Ex), 186 (2), 202, 218 Roe (Vg). 9) 1955 (14 cards): #22 Campanella (Ex), 39 (2), 65 Zimmer RC (Vg-Ex), 66, 98 Gilliam (Vg-Ex), 156, 169 Furillo (Vg), 195 (2), 196, 240, 270 (2).
