1934 Goudey #75 Bill Werber PSA NM-MT 8
Starting Bid - $300.00, Sold For - $1,856.00
Graded NM-MT 8 by PSA. One of nine examples graded at this level with one graded higher. Bill Werber, the first All-American basketball player at Duke University, signed with the Yankees after his senior year. He played eleven seasons in the Majors with his best year coming in 1934 when he had 623 at bats, 200 hits, 129 runs scored, 41 doubles, 10 triples and a .321 batting average. He was the first player to bat in a televised game, leading off for the Reds against Brooklyn on August 26, 1939. This difficult high number from the 1934 Goudey set displays bold colors, with four razor sharp corners, perfect registration, and centering just a hint towards the right border (55/45). This is an extraordinary high-grade example with an image that really "pops." We have found that the auction selling prices of cards from extremely popular sets with very low populations in the highest grades often sell for far more than SMR, and this is especially the case with classic vintage sets such as 1934 Goudey. Reserve $300. Estimate $500/$1,000. SOLD FOR $1,856.00
