1934 Goudey #2 Mickey Cochrane PSA MINT 9
Starting Bid - $1,500.00, Sold For - $11,020.00
Graded MINT 9 by PSA. One of six examples graded at this level with none graded higher. The best catcher of the 1920s and 1930s, Mickey Cochrane was a field leader who later managed the Detroit Tigers to their first World Series title. As a member of the Philadelphia A's he won two World Series titles, and was a key part of five American League pennant winners. He won the American League MVP award in 1928 and 1934. Cochrane was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1947. This pack-fresh beauty is perfectly centered with four razor-sharp corners, snow-white borders, and deep, rich colors. The portrait image is bright and crisp with perfect registry. The reverse has just the slightest hint of toning along the right edge, virtually undetectable but mentioned strictly for the sake of accuracy (this in no way affects the overall Mint grade). We have found that the auction selling prices of key cards cards from extremely popular sets with very low populations in the highest grades often sell for far more than SMR. All Goudeys are extremely rare to find in Mint condition, but as card #2 in the 1934 Goudey set, Cochrane is a special condition rarity, and a particularly extraordinary card to find in such incredibly high grade. SMR Value is $5,000. Reserve $1,500. Estimate $3,000/$5,000. SOLD FOR $11,020.00
