1909-1911 Colgan's Chips Collection of Tins (176) and Cards (106)
Starting Bid - $1,000.00, Sold For - $3,190.00
Collection of 176 original Colgan's Chips packaging tins plus 106 Colgan's Chips cards. 1) 176 Colgan's tins: This is an unbelievable quantity of these tins, each of which once held the round gum and an E254 Colgan's Chips baseball card. The tins were manufactured in two different colors, green (Mint Chips) and red (Violet Chips), and had a number of different variations (Louisville or NY, FDA or no FDA reference, copyright or no copyright on the lid, and Sterling Gum Co.) which are all present in this collection. This collection includes 78 green (Mint Chips) tins and 98 red (Violet Chips) tins. Because they are made of tin, these candy containers are prone to small scratches, chipping, and minor rust. The tins are in overall Vg-Ex to Excellent condition, with many in Excellent condition. Some still have the round gum inside. This is an unprecedented assembly of Colgan's tins. 2) Accompanying the tins are 106 assorted E254 Colgan's Chips cards (mostly different but includes a few duplicates) including Hall of Famers Frank Chance (Vg), Johnny Evers (Gd), Hughie Jennings (Gd-Vg), and Joe Tinker (Gd). The balance of the cards are in varying mid-grade conditions (mostly Vg) but are ideal for accompanying the tins. This is a very unusual collection of materials relating to this distinctive early gum issue. Total 282 items (176 tins and 106 E254 cards). Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000/$3,000. SOLD FOR $3,190.00
