1888 N162 Goodwin Champions Complete Set of Baseball Players SGC Graded (8)
Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $3,480.00
Complete set of all eight baseball players from the 1888 N162 Goodwin Champions set, considered by many to be the single most beautiful of all the nineteenth-century tobacco issues, in grades ranging from Poor to Very Good condition. The set is highlighted by a VG example of key card Mike "King" Kelly. All eight cards have been graded by SGC. Of the eight ballplayers in the set, four are Hall of Famers (Anson, Brouthers, Keefe, Kelly) and three other were major stars of the day (Caruthers, Dunlap, Glasscock). Ed Andrews was very popular in Philadelphia but was not a star. SGC Condition Report: Mike "King" Kelly (HOF, VG 40), Cap Anson (HOF, FAIR 20), Tim Keefe (HOF, FAIR 20), Dan Brouthers (HOF, POOR 10), Bob Caruthers (POOR 10), Dunlap (FAIR 20), Jack Glasscock (FAIR 20), and Ed Andrews (FAIR 20). This set offers a rare opportunity to acquire a presentable yet still relatively affordable complete set of one of the most desirable of all nineteenth-century baseball cards. Total 8 cards. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$2,000. SOLD FOR $3,480.00
