The cards grade 60% Nr/Mt-Mt, 25% Nr/Mt, 15% Ex to Ex-Mt ( a few slightly lesser). The Civil War centennial celebration was still going strong in 1962 when Topps issued the Civil War News set. Each card has multicolored artwork of a battle scene or historical event. The text on the reverse is designed in the style of a newspaper. The extraordinary artwork and accurate historical information presented on these cards have always distinguished them as one of Topps' most ambitious projects. Many years ago a number of unopened cases of Civil War News were discovered. This tremendous high-grade assortment from the famous Mark Macaluso collection almost certainly originated from this legendary non-sport find. Total 597 items (480 cards plus 117 pieces of Confederate money). Reserve $1,500. Estimate $3,000/$5,000. SOLD FOR $6,380.00
