1969 Jimi Hendrix Original Concert Poster
Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $812.00
Rare and exquisite concert poster promoting an appearance of The Jimi Hendrix Experience on Friday, May 2, 1969 at the Cobo Arena in Detroit, Michigan. This richly colored poster features stylized portraits of Jimi Hendrix, Noel Redding, and Mitch Mitchell surrounded by a three-dimensional design of stars, clouds, and rainbows, with naked women flanking the study. Note the insanely cheap (by today's standards) ticket prices ranging from $3.50 to $6.60. Now THOSE were the days! They opened the night with "Fire" then went on to perform "Spanish Castle Magic," "Foxy Lady," "I Don't Live today," "Sunshine of Your Love," "Voodoo Child (Slight Return)," and closed with "Red House." It was reported that the packed crowd was "managed" by a huge contingent of police officers who forced the entire audience to remain seated for the duration of the show. The poster is professionally and archival linen-backed. Several minor creases and cracks have little impact on the overall Excellent appearance and beauty of this exceptionally attractive 1960s advertising display. As the years pass, the legend of Jimi Hendrix continues to grow. Significant material related to his brief and brilliant tenure is rare, important, and highly prized. This is a superb example of one of the premier Hendrix display pieces and a great example of vintage rock artwork. Dimensions: 14 x 22 inches. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$1,500. SOLD FOR $812.00
