1937 Marlene Dietrich Signed Photograph
Starting Bid - $200.00, Sold For - $348.00
Mystery and glamour were the trademarks of German screen goddess Marlene Dietrich (1901-1992), and the fabulous inscribed and signed photograph offered here fully displays the alluring beauty that made her a star. The vintage Paramount Picture publicity still is marked "Copyright 1937, Paramount Pictures Inc." in the lower border. Dietrich has signed "To Ruby Lee Meyers, Sincerely, Marlene Dietrich" ("10") in green marker across the white sleeve of her blouse. This is an ideal signed photograph from the star of Shanghai Express and Witness for the Prosecution, among dozens of other films. The year 1937 was particularly significant for Ms. Dietrich, as in that year she was contacted by agents for Adolph Hitler who wanted her to return to Germany, apparently to aid in Nazi propaganda. When she refused, her films were barred in Germany and she was considered a traitor by her countrymen. This ostracism from her homeland caused her go into seclusion for two years before returning to the world of film, and performing at USO functions around the world. Four very tiny corner pinholes are mentioned strictly for the sake of accuracy and do not detract from the exceptional high-grade appearance; the photograph is otherwise in Near Mint condition. This is a tremendous high-quality signed photograph of screen goddess Marlene Dietrich, an original film diva from the glamour days of Hollywood. LOA from James Spence, Steve Grad & John Reznikoff/PSA DNA. Reserve $200. Estimate $400/$600. SOLD FOR $348.00
