1949 Albert Einstein Signed Typed Letter
Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $1,740.00
Beautifully presented and magnificently preserved Albert Einstein (1879-1955) typed and signed letter (6.5 x 5.5 inches) on "Princeton University Institute for Advanced Study, School of Mathematics, Princeton, New Jersey" letterhead is dated "March 31, 1949" and reads in full: "Dear Sir, Thank you for the invitation to participate in your weekly broadcasts. Poor health, however, does not permit me to participate in such activities. Sincerely yours, Albert Einstein." The letter is addressed to "Mr. John N. Siverton, Technical Service Laboratory, Johnson & Johnson, New Brunswick N.J." and is beautifully signed in blue ink "A. Einstein" (9/10). The great physicist was suffering through a very difficult period when this letter was written. His wife of forty-five years, Mileva, had died in 1948, and Einstein himself was in such poor health that he would draw his will less than a year later. The letter itself is in immaculate Near Mint condition with a single horizontal mailing fold. Beautifully and very professionally matted and framed with a classic non-vintage photograph print of an elder Einstein, to total dimensions of 25.5 x 19 inches. This is a gorgeous framed display and tribute to one of the greatest minds in the history of mankind. LOA from James Spence, Steve Grad & John Reznikoff/PSA DNA. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$1,500.
