1981 Donruss Jack Nicklaus Collection (356 Assorted)

Starting Bid - $800.00, Sold For - $1,160.00

The 1981 Donruss golf set includes two cards of Jack Nicklaus: his regular card #13, and a second "Statistical Leader" card. This collection is comprised of an incredible 356 assorted cards of Jack Nicklaus from the 1981 Donruss set: seventy-three cards are the #13 Nicklaus rookie card; the remaining 283 cards are Nicklaus' "Statistical Leader" card. Eight cards have been graded and encapsulated by PSA: three # 13 Jack Nicklaus rookie cards (one is a GEM MINT 10 and two are MINT 9s) and five "Statistical Leader" cards (all MINT 9). There are no guarantees with grading, but the balance of the group looks just as sharp and factory-fresh as the eight graded cards. All the cards are in Nr/Mt-Mt to Mint condition overall. 1981 Donruss golf is an important set to collectors as this is one of the few golf sets of the modern era. While only two different cards are represented in this hoard, there is little doubt as to the merits of the chosen subject. When one debates the greatest golfer to ever play the links, one name that will always be worthy of consideration is Jack Nicklaus. Nicklaus was the PGA's top money winner in 1964, 1965, 1967, from 1971 through 1973, and in 1975 and 1976, and he was named player of the year in 1967, 1972, 1973, 1975, and 1976. He won seventy PGA tournaments, second only to Sam Snead. This lot has a tremendous theoretical potential break-up value. The SMR value on just the eight graded cards alone is $1,270. If the remaining 348 cards graded similarly, the SMR book value on this lot would exceed $55,000. Total 356 cards. Reserve $800. Estimate $1,500/$2,500. SOLD FOR $1,160.00
