1958 Bobby Jones Signed Letter to Golf Magazine
Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $2,320.00
One-page typed letter written by legendary golfer Bobby Jones on his personal stationery, dated December 12, 1958, expresses his best wishes to the editor of GOLF magazine. In the letter, Jones writes that he is delighted to hear of the launch of a first-class magazine devoted exclusively to golf. Jones letters are rare, and one on his personal stationery, relating directly to the game of golf and the promotion of the sport, is of special note. Among his feats, Jones accomplished what many felt impossible, winning all four majors in the same year (the U.S. and British Opens and their respective Amateur Championship events) only to retire immediately afterwards. Jones also designed the Augusta National Golf Club and co-founded The Masters tournament in 1933. Signed in blue ballpoint pen, the signature grades a "9." The letter has normal mailing fold lines and a staple hole in the upper left corner from filing, and is otherwise Ex-Mt. LOAs from Mike Gutierrez/GAI and James Spence & Steve Grad/PSA DNA. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$2,000. SOLD FOR $2,320.00
