1965-1968 Johnny Bench Rookie Era Pro Model Bat

This Hillerich & Bradsby signature model R161, dating from the rookie year of this Hall of Fame catcher, exhibits heavy game use including ball marks, stitch marks, and bat rack marks. The cracked handle (lifted, approx. 14 inches) has a heavy coat of pine tar. Bench's player number "5" is written on the knob end in vintage red marker. Hillerich & Bradsby factory records indicate that this bat was shipped to Bench on 6/19/67, just two months into his rookie season in which he played in twenty-six games and accumulated eighty-two at bats. Considered by many to be the greatest catcher of all time, Bench was the first catcher to win National League Rookie of the Year honors and went on to become the National League's dominant catcher for nearly a decade and a half. His Hall of Fame career included two MVP awards, fourteen All-Star games, and ten Gold Gloves. Length: 35.5 inches. Weight: 32.5 ounces. SCD Authentic Grade: A9.
