Starting Bid - $1,000.00, Sold For - $6,325.00

Non-collector "shoebox find" is comprised of 164 nineteenth-century tobacco cards, highlighted by a complete set of 1888 N28 Allen & Ginters. Offered as a collection, exactly as they have been saved since the 1880s, included are the following: 1) 1888 N28 Champions Complete Set of 50: Each of the 10 baseball cards have clean backs, unless noted, with most presenting far better than their technically accurate assigned grade. Baseball players: Anson (Fr, heavily soiled front, minor paper loss and creasing), Bennett (Gd, ink on front, light soiling, nice image), Caruthers (Vg, clean front, light corner wear), Clarkson (Gd-Vg, toned front, light crease), Comiskey (Vg-Ex, clean front, light chip on reverse), Glasscock (Ex, clean front and back), Keefe (Vg-Ex, light toning, reverse has small stamping near top), Kelly (Ex, light toning, clean front), Mulvey (Gd-Vg, light toning, reverse has small ink stamp near top, minor paper loss on reverse), Ward (Vg, clean front, minor corner wear). The 40 remaining cards range from Gd to Ex, averaging Vg, most with clean backs and very little paper loss. A handful of cards do have paper loss on front. Boxers: Sullivan (Gd), Kilrain (Gd), and Dempsey (Ex). 2) 1889 Dukes Cigarettes Perilous Occupations: complete set of 50 cards. Condition ranges from Gd to Ex, averaging Vg-Ex, with the exception of four cards in lower grade. Relatively clean fronts and backs. Set contains a wide variety of scenes depicting man's daring escapades across the globe. 3) N2 Allen & Ginter American Indian Chiefs: 14 different cards from this extremely popular series, grading Gd to Ex, averaging Vg-Ex. 4) 1889 Arms of All Nations: Complete set of 50 cards ranges in grade from Fr to Gd-Vg, averaging Gd. Technically downgraded due to the writing which appears on the reverse on most cards, the set presents much better, with approximately half the set appearing otherwise to be in Vg to Ex condition. This complete 50-card set highlights the contemporary weapons of choice. Total of 114 cards including the complete set of the N28 Allen & Ginter Champions. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000/$3,000.
