1905 Theodore Roosevelt Signed Naval Commission
Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $1,035.00
Beautifully displayed 1905 Naval Commission, with fabulously large signature by President Theodore Roosevelt, twenty-sixth President of the United States. The document, measuring 13 x 16 inches and printed on heavy parchment paper, is dated March 7, 1905, and serves to appoint "William H. Damhoon" to the status of Carpenter in the United States Navy. It is signed at the bottom, above the official U.S. Navy seal, by "Theodore Roosevelt" ("10/10") as President of the United States, as well as "V.H. Metcalf" as Secretary of the Navy. The Roosevelt signature is extremely large and bold, covering more than one-third of the width of the document. The Commission is beautifully (and very expensively) matted and framed with a powerful portrait of the President, to total dimensions of 35 x 26 inches. Ideal for display in a library or office, this is a striking and most impressive official document signed by one of America's most popular and charismatic leaders as President. In exceptionally high grade, with three filing folds (one horizontal, two vertical) and normal wrinkling, as is characteristic of these Commissions. Excellent condition. LOA from James Spence, Steve Grad and John Reznikoff/PSA DNA. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$1,500. SOLD FOR $1,035.00
