1859 James Buchanan Signed Document

Partially printed document (15 x 13 inches) signed by James Buchanan ("8") as President and dated July 12, 1859 provides verification that "G. O'Hara Taaffe has been appointed Consul of Denmark at San Francisco, in the State of California." The document is also signed by 1848 Presidential candidate Lewis Cass ("8") as Secretary of State. The embossed seal is complete and intact. Buchanan was America's only bachelor President. The document has some separations along fold lines. Beautifully framed with print of Buchanan and identification plaque to dimensions of 36 x 23 inches. LOA from James Spence, Steve Grad & John Reznikoff/PSA DNA. Reserve $400. Estimate $800/$1,200.
