1954-55 Topps Hockey Original Artwork Collection (7)

Starting Bid - $1,000.00, Sold For - $1,725.00

Collection of seven original artworks from the landmark 1955 Topps Hockey series, the first Hockey set issued by Topps. This important set includes only 60 cards, thus the offered collection of seven original artworks represents over ten percent of the set. The 1955 Topps Hockey set features players from the four American teams: Detroit, New York, Chicago, and Boston. The offered seven artworks each feature Boston Bruins players, and include artworks to the following cards in the set: #6 Real Chevrefils, #25 Fern Flaman, #31 Lorne Ferguson, #36 Fleming Mackell, #49 Bill Quackenbush, #50 Warren Godfrey (accompanied by example of issued card in Nr/Mt condition), and #60 Milt Schmidt (the final card in the set). Years ago, the artwork to the entire set surfaced in the hobby, and was broken up among collectors. Most had a little surface residue, and most had a very slightly irregular die-cut along the bottom border, related to the production process (a few were extremely irregular in shape, though none of those are included in this collection). Today, it is rare to see even a single original artwork offered from this classic 1950s hockey set, let alone a group of originals from the collection. Somehow these seven examples have survived together, just as they have since 1955, and they will remain together in this lot, offered as a group. Each artwork has some surface residue (believed to be glue) on the front, as well as glue residue on the blank reverses, which is also standard for these artwork originals. Each artwork measures 3.5 x 4.25 inches. Total 8 items (7 original artworks plus one issued card example). Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000/$3,000. SOLD FOR $1,725.00
