1951 Topps Ringside Boxing Original Artwork

Starting Bid - $300.00, Sold For - $460.00

Offered is the original artwork for card #57 Bernard Docusen from the 1951 Topps Ringside Boxing set. We have never before seen or even heard of another example of original artwork from this early Topps series. This extraordinary rarity was consigned with the 1951 Topps Magic Football artwork appearing elsewhere in this sale, which also may be unique. The artwork has a 1 inch perfect cut from the right edge along Docusen's shoulder to his neck, which was done by Topps in the production process, related to an executed background color change which involved die-cutting the figure and placing it on a new background. There is a very minor and very small (only one-quarter inch long) tear which has resulted from handling, on Docusen's right cheek. Overall Vg-Ex. Measures 2.75 x 4 inches. This is a fascinating artwork, and an extreme rarity, very possibly the only surviving example of artwork from this important early Topps series. Reserve $300. Estimate $500/$700. SOLD FOR $460.00
