1941 Notre Dame Football Silk Banner
Starting Bid - $300.00, Sold For - $920.00
Silk display banner (35.5 x 18 inches) was created to commemorate the "Fighting Irish" undefeated season of 1941. The blue and gold banner is of exceptional quality and craftsmanship. The center of the banner features a football with facsimile stitched signatures of eleven players under legendary coach Frank Leahey, including Heisman Trophy winner Angelo Bertinelli. The banner lists the scores of all games played during the 1941 season, including what many regard as the greatest college football game ever played, the famous 0-0 tie between Notre Dame and Army, played at Yankee Stadium. Tack holes in all four corners from display, otherwise in Near Mint condition. There are a number of reproductions of later (early 1950s) Notre Dame banners, but this one is a rare original, dating from 1941. A very substantial and attractive display honoring one of Notre Dame's most legendary teams. Reserve $300. Estimate $500/$1,000. SOLD FOR $920.00
