1934 Goudey Gum Baseball Card Album Set
Starting Bid - $400.00, Sold For - $1,035.00
Extremely rare matched set of the almost never seen 1934 Goudey premium albums, issued to house Goudey's classic 1934 "Lou Gehrig says..." series. One album is designed to hold the American Leaguers, the other is for the National Leaguers. Spaces are provided inside for kids to paste in cards. These albums are among the rarest of all Goudey premiums. Albums were available by mail in exchange for a very expensive 50 wrappers each, and, according to advertising materials, some store owners also gave an album as a special prize to the youngster who bought the very last pack of 1934 Goudey baseball cards to finish the store's display box. We can count on one hand the number of sets we have ever seen. Because of their intended purpose, when found they are almost always in low grade from use. Clean high-grade unused examples such as these are virtually unheard of, and a matched set falls into the category of "Goudey Collecting Miracle." Both albums (each measuring 9 x 6 inches) are in Excellent to Mint condition. Reserve $400. Estimate $800/$1,200. SOLD FOR $1,035.00
