1972 Jerry Grote NY Mets Game-Used Home Jersey
Starting Bid - $400.00, Sold For - $1,265.00
This NY Mets pinstripe home knit jersey was game worn by longtime Met favorite Jerry Grote during the 1972 season. Grote was a member of the 1969 "Miracle Mets" championship team, and he caught every inning of the LCS and World Series of 1969 and 1973. "Mets" appears across the front in script-style letters. The player number "15" is on both the left breast and on the back of the jersey. All the letters and numbers are in blue on orange tackle twill. On the left sleeve is the Mets "Skyline" patch. In the neck of the jersey is a white patch with "42 72 15" in blue chain stitching. The numbers denote the size, year, and player number, respectively. On the inside left front tail is the "Rawlings" label with the size "42." The numbers on the reverse have been professionally restored and upon close inspection reveal an outline from the old numbers. The team name and numbers on the front have slightly faded. The name "D Riggers" is written very lightly in black marker in the collar, suggesting this jersey received additional use as a "hand-me-down," a very common practice at this time. The jersey shows excellent game use and with the exception of the reverse number restoration, has no additional alterations. LOA from Dave Bushing & Dan Knoll/SCD Authentic. Reserve $400. Estimate $800/$1,200. SOLD FOR $1,265.00
