1971 Al Downing LA Dodgers Game-Used and Signed Road Jersey
Starting Bid - $1,000.00, Sold For - $1,265.00
One-year style grey flannel jersey is lettered "Dodgers" across the chest in script, with "44" on the left breast and on the reverse. The team name and number on the reverse are blue felt with white trim, and the number on the front is in red. A "Rawlings 42" label appears in the collar, and "Downing 71" is stitched on the front left tail. "Set 1 #8P 1971" year tag appears inside the front left tail. The jersey is signed "Al Downing" ("9") on the left breast beneath the number. The reverse of the jersey has a few tiny holes and some white trim missing from one of the number "4s" from rough game use. The jersey is all original and has no alterations of any kind. Despite 17 very successful Major League seasons, Al Downing will forever be remembered as the pitcher who served up Hank Aaron's historic record-breaking 715th home run in 1974. 1971 was Downing's finest year, posting a 20-9 record and leading the league with five shutouts. This jersey was originally a part of the Barry Halper Collection. It appeared as Lot #1986 in the famous Halper auction where it sold for $3,737. LOAs from Dave Bushing & Dan Knoll/SCD Authentic and Mike Gutierrez/GAI and James Spence & Steve Grad/PSA DNA. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000/$4,000. SOLD FOR $1,265.00
