1908 Cy Young Day Program With Ticket
Starting Bid - $1,000.00, Sold For - $2,875.00
This elaborate baseball-shaped program was issued to specially commemorate "Cy Young Day," which was held in Boston on August 13, 1908. Cy Young was nearing the end of his career in 1908, and these special festivities were planned to celebrate Cy Young's great career. The program has 10 pages. The beautiful red, white, and blue color scheme of the cover, and its striking design, help make this majestic program one of the very best of all items relating to Cy Young. The program was produced with tremendous care and attention to quality and detail. It includes numerous photographs of Cy Young at various stages of his career. Of special note, included with the program is the original ticket stub to the game. The ticket has survived in perfect condition since 1908; neatly attached "tipped-in" style on the first page with glue along its right edge (could easily be removed if desired). There are probably no more than a dozen examples of this important program known. This is the first we have ever seen which is accompanied by the game ticket. The center score sheet presents a preprinted lineup for Boston. The lineup of the opposing team is not preprinted, and has been neatly filled out in ink with the names of the American League All Stars comprising the opposing team for the exhibition game (including Keeler, Chesbro, Chase, J. Collins, etc.). The actual game has been left unscored. Extremely attractive and significant tribute to the great Cy Young. In pristine Nr/Mt Condition. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000/$3,000. SOLD FOR $2,875.00
