Significant 1930s Negro League Photo Collection Including Gibson (7)

Seven original photographs include the following: 1 & 2) Two 1937 Ciudad Trujillo game action photographs (each 5" x 7"), one of Josh Gibson at the plate in mid-swing, the other of Lazaro Salazar having just hit the ball. Both are striking and very detailed game action shots. Each has some surface loss damage, along the bottom, which could easily be matted out, and are otherwise fine, unique, and rare images of outstanding quality and detail. 3 & 4) Two 1937 Ciudad Trujillo snapshot-style original photos (each 3" x 4 ½"), one featuring four players including Bell, Salazar, and Gibson (Vg-Ex, photo a little light, photo studio stamp on reverse), the other features pitcher Sam Bankhead in a pitching pose (Ex). 5 & 6) Two 1933 Cuban Stars snapshot-style photos (each 2 ¾ x 3 ½") of Lazar Salazar, one posed in uniform, the other posed in street clothes (both Vg-Ex). 7) Tremendous photograph (5 ½" x 4") of the 1935 NY Cubans infield. "Photo by Weems" in lower right. Extremely striking image in Excellent condition. This is the first year of the NY Cubans franchise. Players are Anastacio Antiella, Horacio Martinez, Francisco Correra, Javier Perez, Fermin Valdes, and Pedro Arrango. In their first season the Cubans lost a 4-3 Negro National League playoff to the Pittsburgh Crawfords. This very photograph appears in Mark Rucker's book Smoke, The Romance and Lore of Cuban Baseball. The 1937 Ciudad Trujillo game action photos of Gibson and Salazar batting, the Sam Bankhead photo, the photo of Gibson, Bell, and Salazar, and the two 1933 Salazar photos are all from the family of Lazaro Salazar.
